Tesla Supercharger Adapter Review - Lectron Vortex Plus
Tesla Supercharger Adapter Review - Lectron Vortex Plus

Lectron recently released their upgraded NACS-to-CCS adapter for Tesla Superchargers called the “Vortex Plus.” Here’s why it’s worth considering.

NOTE: Lectron provided this product for testing, but all opinions are my own.

Specs & Features

Similar to its predecessor, Lectron’s Vortex Plus adapter is rated for 500A, 1000V, or up to 500 kW of power output. That means that, for any modern electric car using a Tesla Supercharger, it won’t be the bottleneck for charging speed.

Depending on your specific EV model, Lectron says you can add up to 150 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Charging results will vary by vehicle.

Please note that this adapter is designed for CCS-equipped EVs that have Supercharger access through their automaker. It should not be used with other equipment like Tesla home or destination chargers. Lectron makes a different adapter for that.

Price

Currently, Lectron’s Vortex Plus adapter is listed for $184.99, according to their website.

That makes it one of the most competitively priced options available, especially compared to OEM-branded adapters.

Interlock Provides a Secure Connection

The adapter includes an interlock safety feature. It’s designed to help keep a secure connection between the adapter, the charging handle, and your vehicle’s charge port during an active session. This reduces the risk of electric shock or damage to your vehicle or the equipment.

The interlock utilizes two latches: one on the top for your charge port, and another on the bottom for the Supercharger handle.

UL 2252 Certification

Lectron claims that Vortex Plus is the first publicly available Tesla Supercharger adapter certified under UL 2252. UL 2252 is a safety standard for EV charging adapters. It defines requirements for electrical safety, thermal performance, and mechanical durability.

Testing and certification were performed by SGS.

Return Policy

Lectron says you have up to 30 days to return the adapter for a refund or exchange. It must be in its original packaging with no damage or signs of use, and customers are responsible for return shipping.

Warranty

All products purchased from Lectron (either directly or from authorized retailers) after January 1, 2023, come with a two-year limited warranty to cover manufacturing defects in materials or assembly.

It is important to note that the use of third-party charging equipment is at your own risk. This includes Tesla Supercharger adapters not provided by an OEM.

Lectron Vortex Plus vs. Vortex Plug

The Vortex Plus adapter is essentially a newer, more premium version of Lectron’s Vortex Plug. While both have the same power ratings, the Vortex Plug is advertised only as being “UL 2252 compliant” rather than “certified” by SGS like the Vortex Plus. It also does not have the interlock safety mechanism built in.

Since choosing the Vortex Plus costs only about $10 more, I’d recommend going with it instead.

Build Quality

Its all-plastic textured exterior body is accompanied by aluminum latches on the top and bottom. There’s no play between the different components. The adapter doesn’t squeak when squeezed or rattle with a strong shake. Part of what makes the adapter feel premium is the overall weight of 2 lb (0.9 kg) for its compact size. It’s definitely robust.

The adapter doesn’t feel cheap at all.

The latches are tight, function smoothly, and provide a strong resistance once the adapter is connected to the port. Though, it doesn’t require Herculean effort to release when you finish a charging session.

Compatible EVs

As of 2026, EV models with CCS charge ports from the following automakers are compatible with this adapter (North America only):

  • Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Genesis, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, JLR, Kia, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Rivian, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo

How to Use Lectron’s Tesla Supercharger Adapter

The process is straightforward. Before heading to a Tesla Supercharger location, make sure that you:

  • Download the Tesla mobile app on your phone.
  • Create a Tesla account with an active credit card on file.
  • Set up your EV’s profile in the app, and check the box indicating that you own a NACS-to-CCS adapter.

Once you arrive at a Tesla Supercharger location that allows for third-party EV charging (check the map within the mobile app), you’ll:

  • Pull out the Supercharger handle and push the Vortex Plus on.
    • It’s a bit snug, though that’s a good thing.
  • Open the mobile app, go to the charging menu, and select the location and the stall you’re parked at. Then select the button to start the charging session.
  • Plug the adapter, which has already been connected to the handle, into your car’s charge port.
  • The charging session should start promptly, usually within a minute or so.

Once you are done charging, removing the equipment is easy.

  • Go into the Tesla mobile app and select the “Stop Charging” button (if the session is still active).
  • Press down on the release mechanism on top of the adapter and you’ll feel it disconnect from the port.
  • Pull the equipment out by holding the adapter, not the Tesla Supercharger handle.
  • Afterward, you push the bottom latch in and pull the Vortex Plus off (again, a small amount of force is usually needed).

My Personal Experience

I’ve been using this adapter with my 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 First Edition that has 80,000 miles on the odometer without issue over the last 6+ months. This includes both cold and hot weather conditions. For example, I recently conducted a charge in June 2026 at a brand-new V4 Supercharger in 94°F heat. As you can see in the pictures below, my ID.4 was getting a power output right around where you’d expect for it’s curve and the weather.

Despite the heat, the ID.4’s charging speeds were solid.

Needless to say, I’m confident that I’ll be relying on Tesla Superchargers for public fast charging from now on.

Conclusion

Between the safety features and certifications, solid build quality, and a price that is often 15-25% less than OEM-branded products (sometimes made by Lectron anyway), I believe the Vortex Plus Tesla Supercharger adapter is a great option if you are going to go with a third-party device.
